Meet Haru no Yo, a rare green-oil Kyara agarwood from Kogado weighing 0.25g. The name comes from a spring night poem by Fujiwara no Teika in the Shin Kokin Wakashu, and the scent itself tells its own story: it opens with a bold, spreading bitterness, then, when gently warmed to around 110°C, a deep sweetness rises after three to four minutes to balance that bitterness, the classic profile incense lovers associate with true Kyara.
Kyara is the most cherished variety of agarwood in Japanese incense culture, prized for its resinous depth and refined character. This sample lets you experience the wood in its truest form: cut into thin strips about 1mm thick, with the short edge ranging from 3mm to 8mm. The strips separate easily along the grain with a utility knife or by hand, and each piece arrives wrapped in a traditional folded paper package.
0.25 g of kyara fragrant wood, provisional name “Spring Night” (Haru no Yo), classified for convenience as green-oil kyara. It opens with a powerful, expansive bitterness characteristic of kyara. When heated from approximately 110°C, sweetness gradually emerges after 3 to 4 minutes, balancing the bitterness to create an elegant, classic green-oil kyara fragrance.
Supplied as thin rectangular strips, not as a single uncut piece. Short side: approximately 3 to 8 mm; thickness: approximately 1 mm; long-side length varies. The grain runs perpendicular to the long side, allowing the wood to be split along the grain with a utility knife or by hand. Pieces are selected to reflect the overall quality balance of the original wood.
Packaged in a tatogami paper wrapper sized to the fragrant wood. Wrapper size and color vary. The wood-origin classification printed on the provisional-name insert is for convenience and is not an official classification. The associated poem is “Spring Night’s Dream Floating Bridge, Broken Off, Clouds Parting at the Peak” by Fujiwara no Teika, from the Shin Kokin Wakashu.
